Mullaitivu District, situated on the far eastern coastline of Nothern Province in Sri Lanka, is famous for its pristine and naturally beautiful beaches. After three decades of war, this area has been undergoing redevelopment and remains an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful and tranquil experience, untouched by mass tourism. The district is comprised of over 70 kilometers of coastline, primarily bordering the Bay of Bengal.
Mullaitivu town beach is a popular relaxation spot among the local population. The beach adjacent to the historic Nandikadal lagoon is an excellent location for bird watching and nature enthusiasts. Alampil beach located on the eastern coast of Mullaitivu District offers a relatively pristine shoreline. Kokkilai lagoon beach is also notably famous for bird observation.
The coastlines of Mullaitivu District, having been reconstructed after the war, mark a new chapter in the northern coastline of Sri Lanka.
