Welcome to Clean Sri Lanka

“Arunudora” National Reading Promotion Programme Launched at Colombo International Book Fair under Clean Sri Lanka Initiative

The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, in collaboration with the National Library & Documentation Services Board, the Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association, the Sri Lanka Scout Association, and LB Finance PLC, has launched the first edition of the national reading promotion programme titled “Arunudora” – A Beginning for the Reading Generation. The programme runs from September 27 to October 5, alongside the Colombo International Book Fair at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall Premises (BMICH).

The initiative aims to foster a culture of reading among Sri Lankan youth and communities, especially focusing on supporting under resourced school and public libraries managed by local government bodies. A dedicated book donation booth has been set up at BMICH to collect books for these libraries, complemented by LB Finance PLC’s regional branches across the island which will also accept book donations in good condition.

In addition to book donations, the programme features a vibrant schedule of reading promotion activities during the book fair, including reading clubs, poetry recitals, songs, and music performances to engage and inspire people of all ages.

This unified effort showcases the commitment to nurturing a generation that reads, thinks, and grows through the enriching power of books. The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat encourages all Sri Lankans to support this valuable cause by contributing books and participating in the array of activities.
