A new phase of the “Tourist-Friendly" Tuk Tuk Driver Training Program was held in Negombo under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, with the aim of improving professional conduct and service standards among three wheeler(TUK TUK) drivers serving the tourism sector. The latest session in this island wide training series took place recently at the Ceylonica Beach Hotel premises in Negombo, bringing together key stakeholders from local government and the tourism industry.
The inauguration was graced by Mayor of the Negombo Municipal Council Hon. Robert Heenkenda, Chairman of the Western Province Tourism Board Dr. Mahesh Priyadarshana, General Manager of the Western Province Tourism Board Mr. Palitha Malporu, and President of the Negombo Tourism Association Mr. Warnakumara. Their presence underscored the importance placed on front‑line transport services in shaping visitors’ experience of Sri Lanka.
Officials from several tourism associations in the Negombo area, along with a large number of three wheeler drivers, participated in the program. The training focused on courteous customer service, safety, reliability, and the role of tuk tuk drivers as informal ambassadors of the country, supporting the broader goal of promoting a cleaner, more welcoming tourism environment.
