The much-anticipated renovation of Narahenpita Railway Station under the “Dream Destination” programme, aligned with the Clean Sri Lanka Initiative, is set to begin on 26th September 2025 at the station premises. This project is funded by MAGA (Pvt) Ltd and implemented as a part of the public, private, and people partnership model.
The “Dream Destination” programme, jointly organized by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, and the Department of Railways, aims to modernize and enhance the infrastructure and facilities of railway stations across the country. This initiative focuses on creating clean, safe, and passenger-friendly stations to provide commuters with a better travel experience.
The Narahenpita Railway Station renovation follows similar projects already underway for the Maradana and Thalpe railway stations, reflecting the government’s commitment to upgrading 100 railway stations nationwide in phases under this comprehensive programme.
Officials highlighted that the programme not only upgrades physical infrastructure but also enhances accessibility, safety, and amenities for all travelers, including differently-abled passengers, while preserving the cultural heritage where applicable.
The public-private collaboration demonstrates the strength of cooperative efforts in improving national transport infrastructure and supporting sustainable development goals.
